Midland SmartZone^sm is an MBA program focused on accelerating economic growth within the community through the strategic use of Midland’s unique expertise in the chemical industry and understanding of the global chemical sector. According to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), “SmartZone technology clusters promote resource collaborations between universities, industry, research organizations, government and other community institutions, growing technology-based businesses and jobs.”

The SmartZone encompasses three sub-programs that grow and develop the industrial base and support high-technology companies in Midland:

• New Business Incubation and Acceleration, established to support new-venture acceleration and incubation for high-tech companies.
• Second Stage Support/Economic Gardening, providing smaller, high-tech companies access to a suite of corporate-level services such as CEO leadership, strategy development, marketing intelligence, new business development and commercialization, supply chain consultation, and much more.
• Foreign Direct Investment that seeks to eliminate barriers for foreign chemical and advanced materials and manufacturing companies to launch their businesses in Midland.
